Named for the forest’s natural cycles of abundance, Mast Trees is Camino Verde’s program for disseminating models, strategies, and knowledge in tropical restoration.

Motivation

Since 2007, Camino Verde has generated a wealth of field-based knowledge on how to productively restore tropical forests in partnership with Amazonian communities. Yet, too often, valuable lessons from hands-on restoration remain siloed within individual organizations or sites, limiting the collective progress of the movement toward regenerative land use.

At the same time, a growing number of farmers, communities, and institutions seek credible, experience-based guidance to build successful restoration and agroforestry initiatives. The demand for practical, regionally adapted knowledge far exceeds the supply of clear, tested models.

Inspired by the forest’s mast years—periods of extraordinary fruiting and seed dispersal—the Mast Trees Replication Program bridges this gap by transforming Camino Verde’s field experience into accessible training materials, consultancies, and collaborative learning opportunities that empower others to plant, manage, and regenerate forests around the globe.

Purpose

Mast Trees is meant to:

  • Share and amplify Camino Verde’s proven models, strategies, and best practices in tropical forest restoration and regenerative production

  • Empower others in the Amazon and around the world to replicate effective restoration approaches through open knowledge exchange and capacity building

  • Foster partnerships and collaborative networks that expand the reach and impact of Camino Verde’s regenerative model across regions and communities

Mast Trees consists of:

  • CV’s reforestation Centers as Living Laboratories: world-class hubs for demonstrating and disseminating native species–based agroforestry in action

  • Consultancies and Technical Exchanges: providing tailored guidance to partners, communities, and practitioners (See: CV Consultations)

  • Applied Knowledge Resources: creation and publication of manuals, videos, databases, and training materials drawn from years of field experience (See: Resources)

  • Capacity Building: training programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives with local communities, women, and allied organizations — including paid internships for women in our tree nurseries, training of Indigenous community promotores, and the creation of local employment grounded in practical agroforestry management

  • Volunteer and Residency Programs: welcoming visitors, volunteers, interns, researchers, and artists in residence from around the world for immersive learning and cultural exchange (See: Volunteer)

  • Participation in Global Dialogue: active engagement in local and international congresses, conferences, and knowledge networks to share experiences and advance regenerative development worldwide
